メナHey there, I’m Mena (@menachite), a hybrid engineer who handles both mechanical and electrical work.
Tools are easy to keep organized, but consumables are a real challenge, aren’t they?
Things like crimping terminals and drill bits tend to end up in a tangled mess before you even notice.
Today I want to introduce a parts box that was just released — one that can organize every type of consumable you have.
That’s the “TOUGH CASE+”
DEWALT already had a tool box series called TSTAK, and this product appears to be a derivative of that line.
Read the TSTAK review article here.

I also work as a low-voltage electrician, and in that industry, a product from a particular manufacturer limits your options when it comes to choosing parts boxes.
That company is… Nichifu Co., Ltd.
Nichifu’s crimping terminals come with small individual boxes, and finding a parts box that perfectly fits those boxes is a must for low-voltage electricians.
I’m highlighting low-voltage electricians, but this organizer is something I can recommend regardless of your trade.

In this review, I’ll answer whether the TOUGH CASE+ works for low-voltage electricians while giving you a full product breakdown!
Product Specifications

The TOUGH CASE+ series comes in four sizes.
All four can be linked together.
The TOUGH CASE+ is designed with portability in mind, which makes transporting it to job sites incredibly easy.
This product is relatively new, and some versions of the same case come with different accessories.
Basically, the difference comes down to whether the Bulk CASE and bit holder are included — keep that in mind when buying and you should be fine.
The build is solid. While not officially recommended, it can even hold a person’s weight.

My Review

Here’s an idea of the size when held in your hand.
There are small internal dividers, but you can’t choose where to place them — that’s a bit of a downside.
This Bulk CASE fits perfectly into every TOUGH CASE+ model.
The fit is so precise that removing it takes a bit of effort — that’s the one drawback.

In terms of how many Bulk CASEs each model can hold: 4 in the Small, 4 in the Medium, and up to 15 in the Large.
It’s a bit puzzling that the Small and Medium hold the same number, but the Small has a slightly deeper lid interior, allowing it to store Bulk CASEs inside the lid.
Note that the Medium and Large cannot store Bulk CASEs in the lid — keep that in mind.
Honestly, I found the use cases for this insert to be fairly limited. The main reasons are the low capacity and the inability to reposition the dividers.
In many situations, I found myself thinking regular dividers would have worked just as well.
The TOUGH CASE+ models themselves are small enough that portability isn’t much of an issue — which also reduces the need for this insert.
That said, it could work well for storing portable items you need to keep separate from other small parts.
It’s also highly recommended for storing items that you absolutely cannot mix with other parts.

I use mine to store consumables that I don’t use often but occasionally need to bring out to job sites.

My Review

The TOUGH CASE+ Small absolutely excels at storing drill bits and driver bits.
I genuinely thought, “This was worth every penny.”
It’s almost satisfying how cleanly you can store those annoying loose bits in here.
It’s as if these bits — once worn-out tools — have been given the look and feel of brand-new ones by this case.
Isn’t this level of neatness just incredible?
As someone who loves organization, this organizer is absolutely perfect for me.

There are two types of bit holders included.
The small bit holder lets you store mini bits vertically or at an angle.
The slightly larger bit holder firmly holds longer bits in place.
The fit is so snug that you genuinely need needle-nose pliers to remove the holders.

The precision of the fit in this series is genuinely impressive.
TOUGH CASE+ Medium

My Review
The TOUGH CASE+ Medium is shallower than the Small, which means the dividers snap into place and function perfectly.
The key difference: I found the Medium better suited for consumables other than bits.
The two cases clearly each have their own role — and the distinction works well.

I store all my drill-related consumables together in the Medium.
There’s no real need for Bulk CASEs here (lol) — I only added them because I had extras.
The other side holds Nichifu’s small boxes — up to 8 of them fit.
The remaining space is used for longer electrical components.
Only the TOUGH CASE+ Medium allows you to reposition the center divider. That flexibility is one of this case’s highlights.

Nichifu also makes a larger version of their small box, but that size is too tall — the lid won’t close with it inside.

So close! (frustrating)
TOUGH CASE+ Large

My Review

In one word: the biggest and the best.
Its depth means most items fit with ease.
It’s even big enough to hold moderately sized hole saws.
The Large has its own dedicated dividers that aren’t compatible with the other sizes, so they do a solid job of keeping small items from sliding sideways.
As the largest model, it simply holds a ton of stuff.
Nichifu’s small boxes fit 48 of the small size and 21 of the large size.
That’s insane — absolutely monstrous capacity.
The locking mechanism uses a standard latch style, but the lid has its own latches to allow the Medium to be connected on top.

One downside: when you open the lid, the entire box tilts.
This is because the legs are positioned toward the center due to the TSTAK linking mechanism.
I think this is a fairly significant issue.

It’s usable, but it’s a subtle source of frustration.
Since it’s the largest model, I store it in a TOUGHSYSTEM series case for transport. It fits inside the biggest TOUGHSYSTEM module.
Since I’m not running a TSTAK setup, this is how I handle storage and transport.

I ended up using it as a stock box crammed with Nichifu’s small boxes.
The storage capacity is incredibly reliable.

Size Comparison
Size Comparison Across the Series
Here is how all the cases look when stacked together.

The TOUGH CASE+ Large is about two sizes bigger, so be mindful when handling it.
Comparison with the Rival: Kohnan’s Parts Box
Kohnan’s parts box is a highly capable and affordable organizer that pairs well with Nichifu boxes.
It has storage on both sides, fitting up to 30 small Nichifu boxes and around 12 large ones.
The reason I switched away from that box is simple: opening both sides to retrieve Nichifu boxes was a hassle, and it couldn’t hold as many of the large Nichifu boxes as I needed.
Here is the size comparison.

The TOUGH CASE+ Large is also slightly thinner, and when considering compatibility with the TOUGHSYSTEM, it doesn’t waste space — which makes it easy to recommend.
Linking TOUGH CASES
TOUGH CASE+ Linking Compatibility

Here is the linking compatibility for TOUGH CASE+:
| Top \ Bottom | TOUGH CASE+ Small | TOUGH CASE+ Medium | TOUGH CASE+ Large |
| TOUGH CASE+ Small | ○ | ○ (×2) | × |
| TOUGH CASE+ Medium | × | ○ | ○ (×2) |
| TOUGH CASE+ Large | × | × | ○ |
Note: When the TOUGH CASE+ Medium is linked on top of the Small, the Medium cannot be opened — keep this in mind.
Summary

Overall, the TOUGH CASE+ proved to be an unmatched parts organizer for keeping things tidy.
When heading to a job site, you can simply link together the cases you need and go — making it easy to organize your boxes around the task at hand. That’s another big plus.
While it pairs well with TSTAK, its sheer storage capacity and the ability to bring only what you need for each situation is what I found most impressive.
