Hi, I’m Mena. Makita’s MAKPAC is a system tool box that fundamentally transforms how tradespeople store and transport their tools. With 4 sizes (Type 1–4) that connect into a stackable system, you can bring your entire tool setup to the jobsite — and bring it all back — in one trip. This article covers the specs, buying guide, and 4-tier stacking strategies for all 5 models.

メナ

When I first saw the Makita MAKPAC, my immediate thought was “this will finally organize my car trunk.” Once I learned it’s also compatible with the HiKOKI System Case, it felt like on-site tool management was about to change dramatically.

What Is the Makita MAKPAC? — A Systainer-Compatible Stacking Tool Box

The MAKPAC is Makita’s system-style tool storage case. Four sizes — Type 1 through Type 4 — connect with buckle locks and stack together, letting you sort tools and accessories by type and bring your entire setup to the jobsite in one system.

Its defining feature is compatibility with Festool’s “Systainer” standard. Since it also connects with HiKOKI’s System Case, jobsites running both Makita and HiKOKI tools can unify their storage in a single system. The footprint is 295×395mm across all Types — sized to fit standard Japanese carts and shelving.

All 5 MAKPAC Models Explained — Specs and Use Cases by Type

1. Makita MAKPAC Type 1 — A-60501

How to Choose Your MAKPAC Type — By Use, Stacking, and Storage Volume

メナ

The height differences between Types are striking when you line them up. Type 1 is as thin as a pencil case; Type 4 is about as deep as a mid-size backpack. Match the Type to the tool and your storage efficiency increases dramatically.

Your First Case: Type 2 (A-60517)

If you’re trying just one MAKPAC to start, the 157mm Type 2 offers the best balance. Deep enough for most hand tools and power tool accessories, it works well both standalone and as part of a stacked setup.

For Power Tool Bodies: Type 3 or Type 4

For storing cordless impact drivers or circular saws, you’ll need Type 3 (222mm) or Type 4 (315mm). Type 3 handles handheld tools; Type 4 is for large power tools. Construction professionals who transport a full cordless kit will rely primarily on Type 4.

For a Complete Setup: Type 1–4 Set (A-60545)

If you want all four sizes at once, the set (A-60545) is often more cost-effective than buying individually. Perfect timing to go all-in: starting a new business, equipping a new workshop, or overhauling your entire tool management system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Does it really connect with HiKOKI System Case?

Yes. MAKPAC is compatible with the HiKOKI System Case and Festool Systainer. Even on jobsites where both Makita and HiKOKI tools are in use, you can manage all tool storage in a single unified stacking system. We recommend verifying compatibility details with current models.

Q. Is it waterproof or dustproof?

MAKPAC is built to handle typical jobsite conditions (dust, light rain). The buckle lock closes the lid securely, but it is not fully waterproof. Prolonged outdoor exposure in heavy rain is not recommended.

Q. How does it differ from other system tool boxes (TSTAK, PACKOUT, etc.)?

TSTAK and PACKOUT use proprietary standards, while MAKPAC is Systainer-compatible. On jobsites heavy with Makita tools, MAKPAC lets you unify both tools and storage under one brand. For a full four-way comparison, see our separate article “Top 4 System Tool Boxes Compared.”

The larger sibling of the 11L (A-61444), ideal for site supervisors and large construction crews who need drinks for the whole team. Comes with a shoulder strap for standalone carrying, and also popular for camping and outdoor use.

Systainer Compatibility — Stacking with HiKOKI System Case

MAKPAC’s footprint (295mm wide × 395mm deep) and connection buckle standard are compatible with Festool’s German “Systainer” standard. This shared specification enables mixed stacking with the following manufacturers’ cases:

  • Festool Systainer / Systainer3 T-LOC — same footprint, stackable and connectable
  • HiKOKI System Case (BSC10 / BSC14, etc.) — Systainer-compatible design, connectable
  • Makita MAKPAC (all Types 1–4) — all sizes mix freely within the same system

Tradespeople using both HiKOKI and Makita tools can load both brands’ cases onto a single trolley and move everything at once. When connecting different brands, always place heavier cases at the bottom for a stable base. Note that TSTAK (DeWALT) and PACKOUT (Milwaukee) have different footprints and are not compatible.
